When cannabis burns, some terpenes enter the smoke while others break down under high heat. A high terpene percentage does not protect the lungs from combustion byproducts.
Patients interested in preserving terpene aroma may prefer controlled vaporization at lower temperatures. However, terpene-rich vapor can still irritate sensitive airways, and inhalation remains inappropriate for some patients.
